He indicates defunding Planned Parenthood, no assistance for Ukraine, and having federal employees return to in-office work.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has spoken recently about certain areas of federal spending that he intends to address. One of the things he wants to do is remove taxpayer dollars from supporting Planned Parenthood’s abortion business. saying “I would like to. That’s for sure.”
“Some of this will be done by executive order out of the White House. He has a broad authority to do a lot of that,” Speaker Johnson said, referring to President-elect Trump. “But where Congress is involved, that’s where it takes the hard work of legislating and getting everybody on the same page.”
The speaker also stated he would not add aid to Ukraine to the continuing resolution to keep the government funding until the new administration is sworn in. He said, “We have a newly elected president and we’re going to wait and take the new commander in chief’s direction on all that so I don’t expect any Ukraine funding to come up now.”
On the topic of government efficiency and federal staff working remotely, the speaker said, “One of the first things that I think you’ll see is a demand from the new administration and from all of us in Congress that federal workers return to their desks and get back to the work that they’re supposed to be doing. I think that is common sense.”
